The City of Bridge City is in good financial condition entering a new quarter of the fiscal year. City Manager Jerry Jones gave a quarterly budget report to the City Council which met Tuesday evening. Jones said revenues are exceeding expenses to this point of the year. “It’ll balance out, hopefully, we’ll keep a strong reserve and at the end of the year we’ll be back where we need to be,” Jones summarized. BC Shuts Out Buna
Bridge City took an early lead in the first inning and then got homeruns late to win in walk off fashion. The Cardinals defeated the Buna Cougars 10-0 Tuesday night at Bridge City. The Cardinals used four pitchers in throwing the shutout. Cameron Yadon started and tossed two scoreless innings. Peyton Havard, Gavin Green, and Logan Hamm each pitched one inning without allowing a run. Havard and Hamm were both very impressive striking out the only three batters they faced. The Orange Police Department is currently investigating an armed robbery that occurred on March 6, 2018, at about 10:40 AM, at Chase Bank, 3109 16th Street in Orange. Orange Looking To Borrow Money For Improvements
The Orange City Council tentatively agreed to borrow $8 million for major projects, but did not decide on specific things to do. The council Tuesday held a public workshop to talk about selling bonds, a way of borrowing money, after bonds that paid for the police station and No. 3 fire station are paid off next year. City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre said the city has budgeted about $500,000 a year paying off those bonds. The city could borrow more money to have the same amount budgeted each year to complete projects without raising property taxes. County EMC Arrested For Hot Checks
A felony theft charge has been filed against the Orange County emergency management director in connection with writing nearly $17,000 in hot checks to pay for installation of drywall. The charge was filed Monday by the Vidor Police Department through the Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 office against 34-year-old Ralph Vincent Valenciano. In the affidavit of probable cause, Vidor Detective James Blankenship said two men from Gutierrez Drywall of Lufkin came to him complaining that Valenciano wrote four checks totaling $16,880 for five completed jobs.
