The Pinehurst City Council appointed a new assistant city attorney Tuesday. Doug Manning was the unanimous choice to serve in the position just created by the City of Pinehurst. Manning retired in January after 20 years with the Orange County District Attorney’s office and now works for the Orange County Drainage District as a purchasing agent. Lady Bears Flex Muscles Against HF
Thanks to the LCM bats and the pitching of Brianna Frenzel, the Lady Bears needed only five innings to beat Hamshire-Fannett 11-0 to open district play on Tuesday. Taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth, LCM put up 10 runs thanks to big hits from Renna Toomey, Joanna Henry and freshman Bailey Frenzel. And the biggest hit in the inning was a three run homer by Megan Peveto. Frenzel had a no hitter until the top of the fifth when she gave up her only hit of the game. Fatality Accident on Hwy. 105
One man was killed Tuesday in a three car accident on Hwy. 105 near Woodcock Rd. in Orange. Around 11:30am a Kia Soul was traveling eastbound towards Orangefield on 105. A Chevy Tahoe was stopped to turn left on McGuire Lane when the Kia struck it from behind, pushing it into oncoming westbound traffic. Kenneth LeBlanc, 59, of Orangefield, was driving a Chevy Cobalt and struck the Tahoe head on. LeBlanc was pronounced dead at the scene by JP Joy Dubose Simonton. Orange To Enforce Codes
The Orange City Council is ready to start a spring spruce-up of the city after Harvey. On Tuesday, the council instructed the city staff to start enforcing codes like no advertising signs on the street right-of-ways. "We have so many activities and we want our city to look good," said District 3 Councilor Terrie Salter. In the six months since Tropical Storm Harvey flooded the city, the city was lax on some of the codes to allow people to put back their homes and properties. BC's Cameron Yadon beats the tag for a run against Carthage - Playing seven games in seven days may have caught up with the Bridge City Cardinals Tuesday. BC played a doubleheader in Jasper against the Bulldogs and the Carthage Bulldogs, losing the first game against the host team 11-5 and the second game 7-6. Errors hurt the Cards with three in the first game and three in the second game that lead to runs or extended the inning. Commissioner Court Held Tuesday
The Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved extending the lease agreement with FEMA to use the Orange County Convention and Expo Center as a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). The lease was to expire this Saturday, March 17, but the Commissioners approved extending the lease for another two weeks until Saturday, March 31. FEMA is using the LAPC room at the Expo Center for its DRC which is the same room the Orange County Emergency Management Office uses during emergencies. Beauchamp Wins Recount
A tight election got even tighter with the recount Monday. The winner is still the challenger Theresa Beauchamp. Beauchamp had a four-vote lead after the ballots were counted last Tuesday for the Precinct 2 County Commissioner in the Republican primary. Beauchamp won by only two votes over incumbent Barry Burton to be the Republican nominee following Monday’s recount. The recount took over three hours for the four election judges to complete in the Orange County Elections Administration Office.
