Linda Riddick has announced that she is stepping down as girls basketball coach at Little Cypress-Mauriceville. She told KOGT that her husband Melvin, also a coach, is retiring and she like to spend more time with him and her grandkids. She will continue teaching. Riddick coached the Lady Bears for four seasons, making the postseason each year. Before that she spent two years as Ricky Ryan's assistant coach. Commissioners Proceed With Lawsuit
The Commissioners Court Tuesday approved a resolution for bringing a suit on behalf of the county against various drug manufacturers and suppliers of pharmaceutical drugs commonly referred to as opioids. Commissioner John Gothia said Orange County will be joining other counties and the state of Texas in bringing the legal action. Commissioner Barry Burton compared this suit to similar actions brought against the cigarette industry years ago. The LCM Boys Golf Team finished second at the Warren Golf Tournament held Tuesday at Country Club of Texas ( formerly called Brentwood ). The Bears were led by Jack Tindel with an individual second place finish and Blade Broussard with a sixth place finish. Nederland was the tournament winner with a 333 total score. 2018 HLSR Livestock Judging Contest
This past Monday, the Orange County 4-H Livestock Judging Team competed in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Livestock Judging Competition. Orange County 4-H brought two skilled teams. The Junior team placed 78th out of 145 teams. This team consisted of Caleb Pyatt, Jaydon Miller, Rebecca Wright, and Walker Swindell. The Fresh Prep team, from Orange County, took top honors today at Nederland Heritage Festival’s Chili Cook-off. They won First Place in the Judges’ Choice category and were selected for the People’s Choice award. LCM broke open a close game with four runs in the fifth and sixth inning to beat WOS 9-2 in a game heard on KOGT. The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the second when Taylor Gilbert drove home Anthony Bandiero who had walked to open the frame. Then in the fifth LCM scored four runs on two hits.
