Vidor Soccer Headed to Playoffs
The Vidor Lady Pirate soccer team is headed to the playoffs for the ninth straight year. They will play Kingwood Park on Thursday March 29th at Texan Drive Stadium. Vidor enters the playoffs as the 4th seed behind Nederland, PNG, and Lumberton. The Lady Pirates finished 13-8-3 and 9-5 in district. They are lead by junior Reagan Castilaw who has 13 goals and 10 assists, and freshmen Brooke Healy who has scored 26 goals with 15 assists. Accident on Turner Road
At approximately 4:30p.m. Saturday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a one vehicle crash on Turner Road in Orange County. Preliminary reports indicate that a 2009 Honda motorcycle was traveling southbound on Turner Road. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control and fell off the motorcycle. The driver was not wearing a helmet. The driver, Dustin Breaux, 32, of Orange was flown to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. Bobcats Ready For District Meet
The Orangefield Bobcats participated in the final tennis tournament before district on Friday. Girls’ Doubles took home the silver after losing a close match to Woodville in the finals. Taylor Decker and Megan Ibeck defeated Sabine Pass, Bridge City and Kountze before falling to Woodville in a 7-9 loss in the championship game. Michael Arsenault also took second in the Boys’ Singles. Arsenault had wins over Warren, Hamshire Fannett and Hardin Jefferson before a loss to Memorial in the final match of the day. Gaynell Hardin was born on February 27, 1925 and passed away on March 23, 2018 at the age of 93. She is survived by her daughter, Dottie Holt of Deweyville, Texas, grandchildren, Melissa Fletcher, Stephanie Barnes and Charles Holt along with 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, Dorothy Foreman, Norma Hallmark and Wanda Caruthers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford Hardin, daughter, Dani Margo Barnes, parents, John Emmett Allred and Myrtle Geneva Alford, two brothers and two sisters. Astronaut J.O. Creighton Born In Orange
A six pound, nine ounce boy was born in Orange on April 28, 75 years ago. Like hundreds of babies born here during World War II, his parents moved away. John Oliver Creighton grew up in Seattle and didn't return to his birthplace until some 40 years later. By that time, he was a NASA astronaut. Creighton was the pilot of a Space Shuttle mission in 1985 and later commanded two other Shuttle flights. Before his first flight in June 1985, Creighton and his mother, Alberta Creighton, visited Orange and dropped by city hall to get a copy of his birth certificate. The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears scored in every inning and got solid pitching from three hurlers. The Bears bombed the West Orange-Stark Mustangs 17-1 at Ronnie Anderson Park Friday night.
