Citing recent heavy rains and high water in the Sabine River watershed, B.A.S.S. has decided to postpone the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Elite presented by Econo Lodge that had been scheduled to begin in Orange, Texas, next week. “The safety of our anglers and others on the waters of the Sabine River system are our primary concern,” said B.A.S.S. The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears rallied late to take the lead and then got a clutch relief performance to preserve the victory. The Bears split their two-game series with the Bridge City Cardinals, LC-M winning 5-4 Friday at Don Gibbens Field. Trailing 4-0, LC-M scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead. Truman Franklin relieved Bears’ starting pitcher Slade Green in the sixth. Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School senior, McCartney Miller took both the Grand Champion Steer and Grand Champion Swine at the South Texas State Fair 2018. During the auctions, the steer sold for $11,000 and the swine for $4,200. Salvation Army To Open New Store
The Salvation Army in Orange will be getting a new store in April. The previous store was seriously damaged by Harvey and has been closed since then. The new store will be located at 414 Donnell Street about a block south of MacArthur Drive. Captain Frankie Zuniga of the Salvation Army points out there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, April 3, at 10:00 AM. The store opens to the public on April 3 at 1:00 PM. The Orange City Council is now dealing with a question pitting economic development, with jobs and taxes, against protecting homeowners who invested in their community. Etheridge Electric based in Shreveport wants to construct a multi-million dollar, 20,000 square foot building on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at Tulane Road. Local Angler Catches 9.73 Bass
Fishing the Resilience Outdoor Tournament on the Sabine River, Justin Royal of Bridge City won the tournament with one of the best "kicker" fish ever on local waters, a 9.73 pound largemouth bass. Royal said he caught his fish pitching into some reeds on the Sabine using a black/blue Stanley Jig with a green pumpkin Rage Craw trailer on 65# braid. Royal told KOGT he has caught a number of six pounders on the Sabine, but never anything this big. His bag totaled 18.26 pound at the weigh-in at the Orange Boat Ramp.
