Kathy Willis, 65, of Vidor, TX passed peacefully in her sleep from this life on April 3, 2018 after a lengthy battle of breast cancer. She passed away in Beaumont, TX at Harbor Hospice Hospital. She was born in Orange, TX on September 11, 1952 to Lonnie and Eleanor Ellis. Preceded in death are her loving parents. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Gale Willis, her sons Scott Smith and wife Amy of Vidor, TX, Kevin Smith of Lufkin, Texas. Death Ruled “Undetermined”
A justice of the peace has ruled the manner of death as "undetermined" for a 26-year-old employee who was killed at a West Orange industrial plant on February 8. Isaiah Sias was pronounced dead at the scene at the Akrotex Extrusion and Recycling plant on Austin Street. Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Joyce Dubose Simonton said Monday the autopsy showed he died of blunt force trauma to the head. City Discusses Possible Improvements
Orange city officials had an architect design plans with cost estimates for a new park with splash pad, improvements at Memorial Field, and a community center. Jim Clark of Architectural Alliance presented the plans during a Tuesday City Council workshop. Mayor Jimmy Sims said the council needs to make a decision within 60 days on how to spend $8 million to be borrowed. However, real estate businessman Cullin Smith, who also serves as chair of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission, spoke out. "I don't understand why the rush to take on $8 million of debt." The LCM Bears outscored the Orangefield Bobcats 16-10 Tuesday to hand OF their first district loss and put them in a first place tie with the Bears and BC Cardinals at 4-1. The two teams combined for 26 runs on 23 hits with 19 walks, seven pitchers, and three hit batters. There were 17 left on base during the wild affair. The Bobcats scored their ten runs in the first four innings off of Truman Franklin and Taylor Gilbert. It was the Bears third pitcher, Regan Burdette, that shut down the Bobcats offense. Commissioners Spend Money Tuesday
Despite a lengthy 31-item agenda on Tuesday the Commissioners Court handled its business in about an hour. The Commissioners approved the purchase of four Konica copiers for different departments at the Courthouse. The department heads had the same story for each copier. Their current one is over ten-years old, it stops working when it gets warmed up, and it is so old parts are not available to fix it when it breaks down. Two of the new copiers will cost about $4,430. Joyce Ann Meads, age 81, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 2, 2018 in Orange, Texas. A memorial service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held at 6:30 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 401 N 37th Orange, Texas 77630. Joyce was born in Orange, Texas on November 17, 1936 to Lela Mae Lee and Albert J. Mouton.
