Mold in ice machines and drink dispensers, along with spider webs and mice feces in a store room were found during November health inspections at food serving businesses and institutions. Orange County Health Inspector James Scales reported finding the mice feces at the Mauriceville School kitchen, which still managed to get a score of 97. The lowest score was a 79 to the Bridge City McDonald's. The restaurant had expired date foods in the cooler, a broken ice cream machine with the mix still in it, plus wiping cloths stored improverly. Weekend Police Reports
A 47-year-old man is in a local hospital with head injuries after he was hit by a car during an argument with his girlfriend. Police went to the 2800 block of Enner Road about 11:30 Saturday morning and found the man lying in the street with lacerations to his head and face. He had to be taken by Acadian Ambulance to an out-of-town hospital. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the man told officers he and his girlfriend had been arguing. Bobcats Have Plenty Of Experience
The Orangefield Lady Bobcats had another successful season with over 20 wins last year according to Coach Jennifer Willis. The Lady Bobcats were second in district and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Huntington. “We did have a pretty successful season with a lot of young children on varsity so we have most them back,” Willis recalled. Jim Surber of Sabine River Ford has received a complaint about the business's giant American flag not flying at half-staff in honor of President George H.W. Bush. Surber said the flag cannot be flown at half staff because it would then hit the light pole, vehicles, and any people in its reach. He said flag etiquette says fixed flags can be displayed with black ribbon to show mourning. He is survived by his parents, James Richard Stone and Ruth Stone; sisters, Rhonda Sue Eibert and husband, Dale of DeLand, Florida and Theresia Keaton and husband, Gary of Orange, Texas. KJ Miller and the Mary Hardin Baylor Crusaders won their D3 Quarterfinal game Saturday, beating previously unbeaten St. John (Minn) 21-18.
