Churches and houses in Orange are still undergoing repairs from Harvey damage. In November, the City of Orange issued building permits to four churches and three houses. Harvey repairs are being made at Fellowship Church of Christ, 3800 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive; St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 505 15th Street, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 504 John Avenue. The year of 2018 may be forever known as the year after Harvey in the City of Pinehurst. Most of the year was spent cleaning up, repairing, and recovering from the storm that devastated parts of Pinehurst. The City of Pinehurst is looking to do some major infrastructure improvements in the near future. Pinehurst received $6.8 million in a Hurricane Harvey Community Development Block Grant. Several Orange County basketball teams are playing in tournaments this weekend. Results are below and will be updated as scores are reported. Saturday Orangefield had four players in double figures as they beat Hull-Daisetta 74-40. Valentin Catt had 20 pts and 10 rebounds. Cade Prejean added 15 and Colby Gonzales and Coy Bryant scored 11. Accident At Tourist Bureau Saturday
On Saturday, Dec. 29 at 4:45 am, officers of the Orange Police Department were dispatched to the Texas Travel Information Center, 1708 IH-10E in regards to a major accident. Upon arrival officers found that a white 2014 Chevrolet pickup driven by a 41 year old male from Sulphur, Louisiana, failed to control his speed entering the Information Center and struck two parked vehicles. The Cardinals were soaring in their opening game of the Bridge City Cardinal Classic holiday tournament. Bridge City scored the first sixteen points in the first quarter Friday morning. The Bridge City Cardinals were able to fly above the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats 74-29. Scoring for the Cardinals was unbelievably balanced. SRA Opens Nine Gates At TBend (UPDATE)
UPDATE: On Saturday, Dec. 29, after Toledo Bend reached 172.90, the SRA opened all eleven gates at two feet. That has increased the CFS to 34,590. Because of recent rains, Toledo Bend Lake has reached 172.7o ft. The Sabine River Authority has responded by opening seven gates at one foot and two gates at two feet producing a CFS of 23,590. Full pool at Toledo Bend is 172 and SRA opens gates when the lake reaches 172.50. The Sabine River at Deweyville was at 24.56 this morning, over the flood stage at 24 feet. Autopsy Says Williams Was Shot Dead
Octavious Lamont Williams of Orange died of gunshots to his upper torso, according to an autopsy report. Police Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the autopsy was conducted on Thursday. He said investigators are continuing talking to people and gathering evidence. Detectives executed a search warrant on Thursday night in connection with the investigation.
