Citizens in West Orange will continue to be allowed to have temporary housing permits and a waiver on fees for building permits. The City Council approved Monday extending permits issued for temporary housing in West Orange and waiving fees on all building permits for another 90 days. West Orange initially approved issuing temporary housing permits and waiving the fees on building permits for six months following Tropical Storm Harvey. Michael Comeaux, a 1990 West Orange-Stark graduate, has been named the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of the Anna Independent School District, located north of Dallas. For the past eight years Comeaux has been the Superintendent at Post ISD. Post is a small town southeast of Lubbock with 872 students. Anna ISD sports 3214 students. Veterans Foreign War Post 2775 held its Annual Awards Day ceremony Monday at the VFW Hall on Hwy. 87. Each year the VFW and Auxillary recognizes local first responders and cities with an emphasis on the winners of the Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy Contests. Boating Accident Claims Two
A father and his teenage son from Little Cypress were killed Sunday afternoon in airboat accident on Taylor's Bayou outside of Port Arthur. The father was Sam Elmore and the son, Trevor Elmore, who was a senior at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School. Another man on the boat survived. On Monday, members of the Port Arthur Fire Department dive team were working with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to recover the airboat. Vac Time At LCJH, MMS
Little Cypress Junior High and Mauriceville Middle Schools will host vaccination clinics for students on these campuses on April 18. Hours at LCJH will be 9-11 a.m. and MMS will be 12:30-2:30 p.m. Vax-A-Nation is the organization providing the clinic. Students with Medicaid/CHIP will receive the vaccines free of charge, with a copy of their current card. Others can get the vaccine for $14 for the first injection and $10 for each additional vaccine.
