Bridge City's Brandan Simon is headed to the 4A State Tennis Tournament after finishing as the runner-up at the Regional Tournament which concluded Thursday in Bryan. Eco-Fest Underway at Shangri La
The weather was ideal on Thursday for the first day of Eco-Fest 2018 at the Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. Attendance was very good for the annual event at the gardens. Senior citizen groups and school kids were included in the visitors. Thursday's theme was Blooms. The gardens' Director of Horticulture Jennifer Buckner gave a demonstration of planting a Canby Oak or Mexican Red Oak tree. Cox Makes All-Tournament Team
North Texas finished the Conference USA Championships on a high note, posting the best single round of the event, and their score of 287 tied for the third-best in program history. Sophomore Lauren Cox of Orange and junior Sabina Pena each shot three-under 69's in the third and final round at the Verandah Club's Old Orange course, and both tied for fifth to make the All-Tournament team, finishing the event at +4. Patrick (Pat) Henry Small, 69, of Bridge City passed away on January 19, 2018 in Newton, Texas. A memorial service was held March 30 at his home on the bayou in Bridge City. At his request, desserts were served to a small group of family and friends. Pat donated his body to the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. For those that travel on FM 1006 from the DowDupont Sabine River Works site, the pedestrian bridge that spans the FM 1006 roadway will be replaced, creating road closures as the new bridge is installed. OCC Meets Friday Morning
The Orange City Council has a special meeting Friday morning on post-Harvey grants for infrastructure, property buyouts and raising houses.
