She was born to Jesse W Smith and Elinda (Brown) Smith on October 27, 1920 in Orange, Texas, where she resided until March 2003 when she moved to Iowa to live with her daughter, Linda Weaver. Services, under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home, will held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, 1:00 PM, at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Bobcats Appreciative of Donations
Kim Davis(Left) and Stacy James(Right), on behalf of Bridge City State Bank, present a $6,000 check to Superintendent Dr. Stephen Patterson and Athletic Director Josh Smalley to help cover the cost of flooring the high school weight after Tropical Storm Harvey sent water rushing though the facility back in August of 2017. Orange Police Reports
A teenager who was cited for causing a three-vehicle collision that made two trucks collide head-on, told police he was using FaceTime on his cell phone and not paying attention. The crash was Sunday afternoon in the 8200 block of Highway 87 North. One of the trucks, driven by Steven Parkhurst, who is a state district judge elect, rolled over. Orange police reported that 17-year-old Christopher Slade LeBlanc of Orange, who said he was on his cell phone, was given a ticket for failure to control speed. Evergreen Provides “A Walk in the Past”
Heritage House Museum is sponsoring "A Walk in the Past" tour of historic Evergreen Cemetery on Sunday, April 29, from 2 to 5 p.m. Heritage House Board President Sue Denosowicz said the tour is part of the museum's mission to preserve and tell the history of Orange County. People may come at any time during the tour period. The tour will involve walking and the terrain is uneven and includes crawfish holes, and possibly ants. She recommends people wear flat, enclosed shoes. Docents will be at selected sites to tell the story of the people who are buried there. Burke Second After Day One
LCM freshman Jack Burke is in second place after Day One of the Regional Golf Tournament at Raven Nest Golf Club in Huntsville. Without a birdie on the day, Burke shot 76, five strokes behind the leader Sam Bennett of Madisonville. Burke is one of just two freshmen in the top 15. Final round is Tuesday. Softball Postseason Underway
Bridge City, Little Cypress-Mauriceville, Orangefield, Vidor and Deweyville softball teams are all in the postseason. And their bidistrict games have been set. The LCM Lady Bears will begin the playoffs in a best of three series against Huntington on Thursday, April 26, at 6 p.m. in Silsbee. LCM will be the home team in Game One. Wilson Berry Stillwell
Wilson Berry Stillwell, Sr., of Vidor, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on April 19, 2018, at the age of 105, after a short illness with his family by his side. He was born on January 23, 1913, in Soper, Oklahoma, to Joseph Berry Stillwell and Maggie Massey Stillwell. He lived in Beaumont, Texas, for 23 years before moving to Vidor in 1966 after Lamar University bought the family home in order to build additional dorms and classrooms. OC Brings Back 12K From Tournament
As usual Orange County fisherman took some of Bob Sealy's money from the Big Bass Splash Tournament on Rayburn over the last three days. It is a big fish tournament, paying out the top 15 or so every hour. The top fish of the hour weighed in wins $1500 and it trickles down from there. Donnie Pickard of Bridge City had a good day Friday, bringing home $2400 on a first and second place finish. The overall winner of the tournament was Ralph Dupuy of Groves who caught the only double digit fish of the tournament, a 12.05 hawg.
