LCM Education Foundation Comes Through
Thursday morning, May 3, the annual prize patrol of the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Education Foundation, Inc. made a tour of the District campuses, as it does each year, bringing balloons and presentation checks for staff members who have won grants from the Foundation. Instead of awarding competitive grants to individual applicants this year, the Foundation’s Board of Directors decided to give the money to each campus to be used as needed. At first, they really did not expect to be able to give much, since the annual Beary Merry Christmas Market, the group’s main fundraiser, was a no-go, … [Read more...] about LCM Education Foundation Comes Through
Orange P&Z Approves Zone Change
Orange's Planning and Zoning Commission approved a zone change for one of the city's prime commercial properties, but not after asking a lot of questions. The questions also brought up confidentiality with developers and who should be able to know what is going on. The zone change is for land along the new Interstate 10 frontage road that was the longtime site of Cody's Restaurant on 16th Street. The zoning includes lots along 15th Street, which is now closed. The city staff requested the zone change from Commercial Special to Mixed Use Zoning District. Some of the land in the area is … [Read more...] about Orange P&Z Approves Zone Change

OC Health Inspections
Orange County Health Inspector James Scales made 37 inspections during the final half of April and gave 12 perfect scores, mostly to school cafeterias. The lowest score was a 64 to Tequila's Mexican Restaurant on Bridge City. The restaurant scored a 90 in a follow-up visit. Original violations included cheese enchiladas, fajita beef and tomatoes not at proper temperatures. The ice machine had "HEAVY mold," according to Scales, and the kitchen used warm water for washing dishes. Also, roach and mice feces were in the storage room. The follow-up inspection included finding live roaches in … [Read more...] about OC Health Inspections

Joe Henry has a passion for Keeping Orange Beautiful. This disabled veteran recycles all types of metals. At the recent Shangri La Trash Off some 5400 pounds of metal was collected and recycled.
