Stark House Catering To Mothers
The Stark House in downtown Orange has been closed to tours for several months. In honor of Mother’s Day, the Stark Foundation will open the historic home for tours this weekend. Deweyville Man Dies In Accident
A man is dead following a tragic accident in the south end of Newton County. Deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Department said officers and other emergency crews were dispatched to Deweyville on Wednesday when a caller reported that the body of Oscar Almendarez had been discovered under a pick up truck. Following an investigation into the incident, it was later determined that the Almendarez, 63, of Deweyville, had apparently placed the front wheels of the truck on ramps and was under the truck working on the vehicle when it fell off the ramps killing him. Bears Face Huffman In Second Round
Last season was a rare one for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears’ baseball team as there was no post season. At the start of this year prognosticators had the Bears picked fifth in District 22-4A. Orange Residents To Save Money
Property owners in Orange will be able to save money because of an improved fire insurance rating, Fire Chief David Frenzel told the city council Tuesday. He said the council agreed to invest $34,000 for a consultant to improve the rating and citizens will be saving more than that on their insurance payments. The city now has a Class 2 Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating, up from a Class 3. Frenzel said he used a woodframe house valued at $283,000 as an example for insurance costs and checked with a local insurance agent. Misdemeanor Turns Into Felony
A man who could have been arrested for misdemeanor public intoxication was shocked with a Taser gun and now faces a state jail felony charge of evading detention. Orange police report the incident began about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Burton Avenue. A patrol officer reported he saw a man standing in the street "swaying back and forth." When the officer turned around to check on the man, he noticed the man's eyes were "blood shot and glassy." Accident Backs Up Morning Traffic
At approximately 10 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10. The crash occurred near mile marker 857. Preliminary reports indicate that an Acura passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on the Interstate. The driver of the Acura began to slow down for traffic when her vehicle was rear-ended by a Dodge Charger. 18 Wheeler Overturns
On Wednesday, May 09, 2018, at 7:47 AM the Vidor Police Department assisted Orange County ESD #1 with an overturned 18-wheeler tanker truck at he intersection of Sargent and Sarver Streets in Vidor. The 18-wheeler had re-routed itself to avoid the back-up on IH-10 due to an earlier accident WB at the 857 MM. The tanker truck attempted to make a right turn onto Sarver when the tanker slid into the ditch causing the 18-wheeler to overturn.
