After 16 years as an assistant, Allen DeShazo is getting his shot. Thursday the Bridge City School Board announced he would be the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, replacing Dwayne Dubois who left to go to back to Hardin-Jefferson with the same title. DeShazo, a 1998 Vidor grad, came to BC with Dubois from HJ in 2015. But he has worked at BCHS before. He started his career at HJ from 2002-05, then BC from 2005-08. That was followed by a 6 year run at LCM from 2008-13. Allen's wife Jamie, is the head girls track coach at BC. Henry Qualifies For NCAA Championships
Bridge City native Alexus Henry added to her stellar season on Thursday by earning a berth into next month's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Her effort headlined UT-Arlington's opening-day action at the NCAA West Preliminary Round. Henry cleared 1.80m (5-10 ¾) to claim her second-ever trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships (2016). It also will be Henry's second national appearance in 2018, following a 10th-place showing in the event at this year's NCAA Indoor Championships. Kirtland Air Force Base Honor Guard member Senior Airman Dayn Gray presents Lt. Col. Kevin Eberhart with the just-lowered flag after a retreat ceremony May 18. Department Heads Meet Judge
About 30 to 40 department heads at the Courthouse met Thursday morning with County Judge Dean Crooks. The meeting was like an informal staff meeting held in the Commissioners Courtroom. The media was welcomed for opening comments from Judge Crooks and were then asked to leave to allow for a more open discussion of issues by the department heads. Crooks said he wants to have open and honest communication lines between his office and the other offices at the Courthouse.
