WOCCISD Education Foundation Awards Grant
The WOCCISD Education Foundation awarded a $10,000 STEM grant to West Orange – Stark Elementary School today during a special end of year program. The grant award was generously funded through Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. Today’s grant will provide funding for a portable planetarium dome which will benefit the entire student body, approximately 1100 students. All subject area educators on the campus will be able to utilize the dome to enhance how information is delivered to students. BC BOA Adds Two Members
The Bridge City Board of Adjustment met Thursday night. The first order of business was swearing in new alternate members on the board. Beverly Perry and Michael Gauthier received their oaths of office. Another recently appointed alternate Patsy Dowden was not able to attend the meeting. The Board approved a request for a zoning variance. Ben Prosperie wants to build a carport on the front of his home which would be in violation of the city’s ordinance for a front yard setback of 25-feet. Judge Hahn To Retire Early
Thirty-four years of serving as a district judge in Orange County will come to end for Buddie Hahn in another month. Hahn has officially resigned from his position sending his letter of resignation to Governor Greg Abbott this week. Hahn has been the judge of the 260th District Court since December 1984. His resignation will be effective June 30. Four decades as a judge seems like a long time according to Hahn. There have been some changes in especially the drug laws, and Hahn believes the penalties have gotten a little more lenient in some respect. Jeffrey Francis Dziak, 63, of Bridge City, passed away on June 1, 2018, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Born in Pennsylvania on November 11, 1954, Jeffrey loved spending time with his friends and family, enjoying a drink. He delighted in the NHRA drag races and NASCAR, watching Jeopardy, and reading the Cajun Comic. Jeffrey could often be found camping at the deer lease or the lake. St. Mary Church Vandalized
A swastika, numbers 666, and phalluses were spray-painted on the back of St. Mary Catholic Church in the Old Orange Historic District. Orange police are investigating the graffiti as a misdemeanor criminal mischief case. Orange County District Attorney John Kimbrough said the incident could be a more serious offense, but first the facts need to be gathered. "Report it to the police.
