The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating two crashes that occurred in Orange County at about the same time on Sunday night. Sergeant Stephanie Davis with the DPS reported that troopers responded to a fatal multiple vehicle crash on FM 105 near Mansfield Road and to an auto-pedestrian crash on Olsteen Road. At approximately 7:15 PM, DPS Troopers received a call of a multiple vehicle crash on FM 105 in the Vidor area. Troopers report that a 1996 Honda passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on FM 105. Monroe, Elites Ready To Tackle Sabine
Many of the Bassmaster Elite fishermen that weren't already in town started arriving Sunday for the tournament that will begin Thursday and run through Sunday. They will get to practice Monday-Wednesday and try to figure out what the Sabine River and surrounding Texas waters will offer them as they battle for $100,000 in the Sabine River Challenge. Montgomery Headlines Bassmaster Weekend
John Michael Montgomery will be the headliner for the Orange County River Festival coming up Saturday night at the Orange Boat Ramp. He is expected to take the stage around 8pm. Orange P&Z To Review Subdivision Plans
The Orange Planning and Zoning Commission will once again review the plans for the Cypress Shadows Estates II subdivision by Sam Peveto. Last year, the commission, along with the city council, rejected the preliminary plat. The proposed 35.8-acre subdivision is off FM 1130. It is outside of the city limits, but within the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction, which means the city is allowed to approve the plans. Pinehurst Improving West Park
Pinehurst is making strides to improve the city’s West Park. Work is continuing to build a walking track around the park. A beach volleyball court should be ready for play in the next week. Two horse shoe pitching pits are being prepared and should be completed soon. Public Works Director John Toney said some of the other projects at West Park are painting and upgrading the swing sets at the park.
