Among several checks given today by the Golden Pass Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund, administered through the Foundation of Southeast Texas, was a $25,000 check awarded to Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD. Director of Technology, Kim Allen, submitted the grant for two laptop carts for Mauriceville Middle and Little Cypress Junior High. The grant will cover replacement of a small portion of technology equipment that was ruined in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Orange County Health Inspector James Scales went to 31 food service businesses during May. Here are the reports: Cypress Plaza, 7014 North Highway 87 in Orange: Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Slime was inside ice machine. Dates were needed on products, including sandwiches, inside cooler. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler-storage room. Back storage room needed to be cleaned and organized. Burglary On Beagle
Two handguns and a smart TV were stolen from a house on Beagle Road off FM 1130 during the weekend. The homeowners called Orange police at 6:43 a.m. Monday after returning home to discover the garage door open. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said there were no signs of forced entry into the house. One of the guns was a .22 caliber. The other was a .40 caliber Glock with green stock and a black slide. Police Briefs-ATM Thieves Cooperating
The FBI is involved in the investigation of a the break-in and theft of the Capital One ATM, 3738 16th Street. Orange Police Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the theft might be tied to others in Texas and Louisiana. He said four "persons of interest" have been identified and they are cooperating with the investigation. Some of the money stolen has been recovered. Enmon said he hopes additional money will be returned. Accident Stops Eastbound Traffic
At approximately 8:45a.m. Monday, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Orange. The crash occurred just East of SH 62. Initial reports indicate that a Toyota passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 followed by an Infinity SUV. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Toyota struck a concrete barrier. After striking the barrier, the vehicle traveled back into traffic and was struck by the Infinity.
