A state district judge this week called a mistrial before a jury could be picked for the re-trial of a Beaumont man convicted in 2014 of murder for the death of a Vidor teenager in a car crash. 163rd State District Judge Dennis Powell ruled a mistrial because people in the jury pool had heard about the case and had made a decision. 36-year-old Kelvin Lee Roy was convicted of murder and sentenced to 75 years in state prison during a jury trial before Powell in August 2014. Boston's Class A Short Season Club is in Lowell, MA. Their Class A team is in Greenville, SC. Salem, Virginia is home to their Class A Advanced team. Monday, June 4, 2018, the Orange County Sheriff’s office executed a search warrant at a game room located at 5600 block of N.Main in Vidor. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Orange Police Department and the Sulphur, Louisiana police department. The search warrant was initiated after numerous complaints from citizens in the area. Among the items collected were motherboards from the gambling devices, electronic equipment, a sum of United States Currency, and documentation located on the premises. LCM Quiz Team Competes At Nationals
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Quiz Bowl team competed in the National Championship from Friday, May 25, to Sunday, May 27, in Atlanta, Georgia. There were 355 teams competing in the event. LCMHS went 4-6, to finish at 274. 2018 was the fourth consecutive year that the Southeast Texas title was won by the LCMHS students. County Discussing Front Door Repairs
The Commissioners Court discussed for about an hour Tuesday morning during a workshop what to do with several buildings that were seriously damaged in Tropical Storm Harvey. In Vidor the welfare office, known as the WIC Building, and the Sheriff’s substation were flooded in a special flood zone which makes it difficult to relocate to the same location. County Judge Dean Crooks believes there is a consensus on the Court to move the WIC office and Sheriff’s substation to a new location. BC Meeting Includes Honor, Apology
The City Council met in Bridge City Tuesday evening. The meeting was highlighted by a couple of announcements at the start. Mayor David Rutledge apologized to the City Council for the way he had conducted their recent meetings dealing with how items get on the agendas for council meetings. Thieves As Hot As Weather
The thieves came out with the hot weather as people living in the rural areas reported 20 thefts, frauds or burglaries last week. The Orange County Sheriff's Office logs show seven thefts were reported, five burglaries of buildings, three vehicle burglaries, and three cases of debit card fraud were reported.
