VFW Holds Membership Drive
Orange Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2775 and the Auxiliary will host their Annual July 4th Free BBQ/Membership Drive for members, their immediate family and guests on July 4th at the VFW Hall at 5303 North 16th Street. Serving will begin at noon. Membership tables will be set up at 10am. Members are invited to attend the BBQ and pay your dues of $20 for auxiliary and $32 for the VFW. County Takes Over Airport
There will be a change in management at the Orange County Airport beginning in July. Orange County will be the FBO or Fixed Based Operator at the airport starting next month. The Commissioners Court voted this week to have the county assume responsibility for running the facility from Sabine Aviation, the current FBO. Sabine Aviation informed Orange County it was ceasing its association with the county at the end of June. Tim Woolley has already moved into his office at Bridge City High School. The new principal is at home. He practically grew up at the Bridge City High, the old one. His parents Tom and Sharon Woolley taught or coached at the high school at its previous location on Bower Road. "I'd take the bus there from elementary school," he said. His mother taught and sponsored the cheerleaders. His dad coached. He hung around the high school after school. Norma Lucille Waldrep Russell passed away June 17, 2018. She was born in Kansas City, MO, October 25, 1934. Her love and gift was music. Beginning in 1979, she served as pianist and choir director for St. John United Methodist Church. She continued her service at First United Methodist in Mauriceville and St. Luke's United Methodist in Beaumont. In 2005, she made Old First Orange her church home and continue serving as pianist. Police Believe Man Died Trying To Feed Dogs
Orange police think a 69-year-old man died after slipping and falling as he climbed a fence to feed his six dogs. His body was found Thursday morning Detective Captain Robert Enmon said there is no evidence of foul play. A neighbor called police this morning to report the man as missing. Officers began searching the area and found the body nearby. Enmon said the man lived in the Alexander Homes, which is a complex for senior citizens owned by the Housing Authority of Orange. BCISD Renovating Baseball/Softball Fields
This week the Bridge City School Board met and approved a plan to renovate both the baseball at softball fields located at the high school. "We're hoping to start demo right after the July 4 holiday," said Superintendent Todd Lintzen. "Weather willing the plan is to have them ready by December 1." Both fields will have field turf infields and the outfields will remain grass. It will also include an underground drainage system. Both will also receive new scoreboards, bleachers, and dugouts.
