With less than a week before the county takes over the operation of the Orange County Airport, the Commissioners Court Tuesday approved funds to pay the salary for an employee to work at the airport. The position was approved last week by the Commissioners and will be a NE-2 job classification. The Court voted 4 to 1 to grant a request from Sabine Aviation to continue selling aviation fuel currently in the tanks at the airport. Mower Stolen From Business
A Tiger Cat riding mower has been stolen from outside Child's Ace Hardware, a store owned by Orange City Councilman Brad Childs. The mower was at the store for repairs and, according to the report from Orange police, belongs to businessman Mike Manshack. Childs called police Monday afternoon to his store at 3714 North 16th Street. The Scag 61-inch Tiger Cat had been parked on the south side of the store. WO Applies For Mitigation Grant
The City of West Orange will be applying for a Hazard Mitigation Grant. Meeting in a called session on Tuesday the West Orange City Council approved for the city to submit the request for the $9.9 million grant. Public Works Director Mike Stelly explained West Orange will use the grant if the city receives it to complete a drainage study which could lead to deepening and widening ditches, re-sloping the ditches, and removing undersized culverts in the ditches. “It’s all drainage projects,” Stelly summarized. BC Approves Changes For Housing
The Bridge City Planning and Zoning Commission met Monday. Final approvals were given to a zoning change request and to a plat for a new housing subdivision in Bridge City. The commission approved a request for change to the zoning of properties on Granger Street and will recommend approval by the City Council. City Manager Jerry Jones said the owner of the property Chad Landry wants to build duplexes on the properties as he has done elsewhere in Bridge City. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson Monday announced the plans for spending $5 billion to help Texas recover from Hurricane Harvey. Motorcycle Accidents On OPD Weekend Reports
Three motorcyclists were seriously injured in two separate crashes during the weekend. A Bridge City woman Friday night had to be taken by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after a Ford Mustang hit the Harley-Davidson she was driving. Saturday morning, two Houston women driving motorcycles with a group were injured when one motorcycle hit the back of the other.
