BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University seniors Garrett Bowery and Davon Jernigan have been named to the 2018 AP All-American team. Bowery is a first-team selection while Jernigan garnered third-team recognition. It marks the first All-America honors for LU since former Cardinal Brendan Langley was named to several All-American squads following the 2016 campaign. What’s Christmas Without A Parade?
The Orange Christmas Parade was held Monday in downtown Orange with some great participation and attendance from the community. The Kiwanis Club sponsors the parade and made the decision a week ago to move the parade to Monday after learning of last Friday's weather forecast. Michelle Tubbleville with Orange County Disaster Rebuild was the Grand Marshal of the Parade and chose the Home Depot float as the Grand Marshal Winner. Grants Could Help Orange Projects
The City of Orange might get help from hurricane recovery grants to help pay for the new recreation center. Mayor Larry Spears Jr. wants the "rec center" to have showers and spaces for people helping in disaster recovery to set up cots to sleep. He said after Harvey, members of the Cajun Navy and other groups had to sleep outside in the Walmart parking lot. The rec center is one of the infrastructure projects for Harvey recovery that the city council will be discussing Tuesday morning at 9 during a regular meeting. A driver who hit a road sign on FM 1130 Saturday evening told police a deer ran in front of his truck and he went off the roadway trying to avoid it. Orange police reported 41-year-old Kenneth Paul Marple Jr. was driving a Ford F150 in the 8300 block of FM 1130 when the accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Marple and his passenger, 21-year-old Kenneth Paul Marple III, were not injured, according to police.
