Hahn Retires With Party

Monday morning will bring a historic change for the Orange County Courthouse. 260th State District Judge Buddie Hahn will no longer be in his office. After serving 33 1/2 years in the position, he has retired. Friday afternoon his friends, family, lawyers, and other judges honored him at a reception. If anyone said the word "judge," in the room, several heads turned. Some of those judges drove from Beaumont or other out-of-town places. Parts of Orange Under Boil Water Notice

Due to low pressure and outage, the TCEQ has required the City of Orange to notify customers in the following areas to boil water to prior to consumption (e.g. washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions. Citizens Voice Drainage Concerns

Two workshops were held Thursday by the Commissioners Court to discuss drainage in Orange County.  During the almost seven hours combined about 70 citizens voiced their concerns of the drainage in their neighborhoods. Many of the comments were from the same areas where whole neighborhoods flooded.  Some of the most frequently identified areas were in the Twin Lakes addition and Terry Estates of Orangefield, East Susan Circle and Elsie Street in Bridge City, the Lakeside area of Vidor, and residences north of Interstate 10 in Orange. Betty Sue Cummings Betty was born on November 24, 1926 to Dan Lawson Shields and Irma May Bailey Shields in Simsboro, Louisiana. Betty graduated from Polytechnic Institute (Louisiana Tech) in Ruston, Louisiana with a degree in home economics and elementary education. She loved teaching kindergarten in both parochial and public education school systems. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling the world, cooking, and sewing for family and friends. Juanita Joyce Tate

Juanita Joyce Tate, 86, of Bridge City passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Medical Center of Southeast Texas.   Juanita was born on August 29, 1931 in Kinder, Louisiana to parents, Lucille Langley and Edwin Pitre. She had lived in the area for 50 plus years and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. Juanita in her younger years was a beautician. Frances Marie Perea, 77, of Orange, Texas, passed away on June 27, 2018, in Beaumont, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow the service at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange. Mildred R. Gilbreath

Mildred R. Gilbreath 77 of Orangefield died Monday, June 25th, 2018 at her residence. A native of Kirbyville, TX, she was a longtime resident of Orangefield. Mildred was a charter member of Pecan Acres Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter#914 in Vidor. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile and  fund raised a lot for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston. But she enjoyed being with her family more than anything else.
