After three years of hovering in the Top 5 of Bassmaster Magazine’s 100 Best Bass Lakes rankings, Texas’ Sam Rayburn Reservoir finally takes the crown for being the best bass lake in the nation for 2018. The storied Lone Star State fishery has never ranked below 26th in the seven years the rankings have been published. Due to unfavorable weather conditions impacting the Orange area, the Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau has RELOCATED the fireworks display to the City of Orange Boat Ramp, located at 1000 Simmons Drive, and has CANCELED the concert portion of the event. The fireworks are scheduled to go off as planned at approximately 9 P.M. on Wednesday, July 4, at the City of Orange Boat Ramp. Falls Arrested For Theft
On Sunday, July 1st, 2018 at 6:21PM deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Smith Lake Water Park located at 790 W. Tram in Vidor in reference to a theft. A white male suspect had stolen the money bag from the business and assaulted an employee in the process. While making his escape in a vehicle, the suspect ran over the foot of another employee. The suspect was identified as 29 year old Jayson Louis Falls, a Vidor resident. Broke Valve Cause Of Boil Water Notice
The western part of the city of Orange is still under a boil water notice because of a leak and loss of water pressure on Friday. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said Monday afternoon the lines have been fixed and the boil water notice could be lifted by 10 or 10:30 Tuesday morning. City crews Monday took water samples from sites in the affected area. The samples were sent to the Sabine River Authority labs for testing. Wolf said it usually takes at least 24 hours to get test results. Plant Worker Suffers Injury
A medical helicopter landed at the former DERA on Chemical Row Monday afternoon to transport a worker at the Invista plant with a "traumatic injury" to an out-of-town hospital. Orange Fire Chief David Frenzel said his department was called to set up a landing zone for the helicopter on Irving St. which in the area of DowDuPont and Invista. Helm Sisters Headed To Junior Olympics
Maddison Helm, incoming Junior at Orangefield High School, along with her sister, Katelynn Helm, incoming Freshman at Orangefield High School competed in the AAU USA Summer track meet that was held in Converse, TX this past week. Both Lady Bobcats have punched their tickets to the Junior Olympics that will be held July 30 - August 4 in Des Moines, Iowa. Maddison took first place in the 1500 meter run and second in the 3000 meter run. Katelynn qualified by placing sixth in both the 400 meter run and the 1500 meter run.
