Orange County Health Inspector James Scales released his scores for July food business inspections. The McDonald's on 16th Street in Orange had the lowest score with an 81. Scales noted that he saw an employee get something out of her teeth and then try to prepare foods without washing her hands. He also noticed dead crickets by the back door. The other low scores went to Pine Forest Fuel in Vidor with an 83, and the Donut Palace on Highway 12 in Mauriceville with an 84. Orange Council Continues Harvey Discussions
The Orange City Council will have a special called meeting Monday at 5:30 p.m. to talk about post-Harvey projects and options. The considerations include buyouts, acquisition, mitigation construction, and mitigation elevation. The city's consultant will explain the different projects. The council may act on the proposals. Alderman Appointment
The City of West Orange should have a new member on the City Council as of Monday afternoon. An appointment to fill a vacant position on the council will be made at the meeting on Monday. Mayor Roy McDonald has contacted at least four people whose names were given to him by members of the City Council as possibilities to replace Carl Thibodeaux on the council. Thibodeaux was forced by municipal statutes to resign from the City Council in June when he accepted the appointment to be the Municipal Judge of West Orange. Cox Named All-American Scholar, Qualifier
North Texas junior Lauren Cox (LCM) qualified Monday for the United States Golf Association’s 2018 Amateur by finishing second in the qualifier at Sweetwater Country Club. She fired a one-under 70, finishing just one stroke off the pace at the Cypress Course. "I am very excited to see Lauren qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship," head coach Michael Akers said. "She worked very hard leading up to the event. The Orange County Sheriff's Office last week answered calls to eight burglaries, eight cases of theft, one report of a stolen vehicle, and a robbery at the Smith Lake recreation park in Vidor.
