A search committee appointed earlier this year to help recruit the next president of Lamar State College-Orange (LSCO) has narrowed the field of candidates to four. The Advisory Search Committee, appointed by Rossanna Salazar, chairman of the Board of Regents of the Texas State University System (TSUS), selected the finalists from a field of more than 40 candidates identified in a national search. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas. Born in Fisher, Louisiana, on December 3, 1921, he was the son of Ira Allen Thorla, Sr. and Lula Mae Goss. Ira was a member of First Baptist Church in Mauriceville, Texas. Thief Caught At Dead End
Orange police Sunday afternoon chased and caught a shoplifter who took a Yeti cooler from Childs Ace Hardware. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the man grabbed the cooler, worth more than $200, ran out of the store, and got into a vehicle. Police ended up catching the man at the dead end of Gus Lane off FM 1078. Enmon said 34-year-old Douglas Anthony Lee of Vidor was arrested for theft.
