The budget season is here. Tuesday will be the first day for budget talks for next fiscal year at the courthouse complex in Orange. With a little over a month of being county judge under his belt, Dean Crooks could be expected to feel a little nervous in his gut preparing to work on his first county budget. Heavy Rains Point Out Problem Areas
It has been more than two weeks since the Commissioners Court held two workshops to discuss drainage issues with citizens throughout the county. The Orange County Drainage, the county’s Road and Bridge Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife, TxDOT and all the municipalities in the county participated. Since then work has been done to fix some of the problems that were identified by the citizens’ comments. Camp Noah Finishes Friday
North Orange Baptist Church this week was the location for a special summer camp. Camp Noah was sponsored by the Orange County Disaster Rebuild to help children affected by Tropical Storm Harvey deal with the disaster. Fifty local children took Camp Noah and gave a short program on Friday afternoon for their parents in the sanctuary of the church. Sharing his experience of how to deal with a flood was Noah himself. Each child received a certificate and a free T-shirt for being part of Camp Noah. Historic Preservation Meets Monday
The Orange Historic Preservation Commission on Monday will decide whether or not two houses in the Old Orange Historic District should be allowed to be demolished. Chrisleigh Dal Sasso is asking to tear down 1001 Orange Avenue. The city is asking to demolish 97 Cherry Avenue near Simmons Drive. Under the rules of the historic district, the commission must approve demolitions.
