It will be a while longer before the West Orange Volunteer Fire Department becomes state certified as a First Responder organization. The West Orange City Council met Tuesday, but took no action on allowing the fire department to apply for the certification. Fire Chief Terry Veitch filled out the paperwork for the certification and met with officials from Acadian Ambulance Service. PH Police Contract Approved
The Pinehurst Police have a new contract. The City Council in Pinehurst approved the contract with the Pinehurst Police Officers’ Association at its meeting Tuesday. City Administrator Robbie Hood indicated the only change is a two percent pay increase for the officers which all the city employees received and some administrative changes. The contract will be for 2018-2019. The Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department elected its officers for the next year and the City Council approved the election results. Coy Bryant hit a three pointer at the buzzer Tuesday as the Orangefield Bobcats beat Livingston 81-79. For Bryant it was his sixth 3-pointer of the night as he finished with 18 points. Valentin Catt had a monster night as well with 21 points and 19 rebounds as the Bobcats withstood a 26 point third quarter by the Lions. Orange Council Looking For Input
The Orange City Council wants more participation in local government and is asking citizens to make comments on proposed expenses for almost $8 million in Harvey recovery money for infrastructure. Citizen comments will be accepted until January 2. The comment forms will be online, at city hall, and the Orange Public Library. The grant money was discussed during a council meeting Tuesday morning. Grant consultant Greg Wobbe said the money is coming from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Michael James McFetridge, 64, husband of Jo Lynn Long McFetridge, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at his residence. Born in Orange, TX on August 16, 1954, Michael was the son of the late Michael McFetridge and Sylvia Plant McFetridge. After earning his Associates Degree, he began his career as a shipbuilder at Levingston Shipyard in Orange, TX and was employed at Z.F. Transmission up until he retired.
