A 80-year-old woman in Orange contracted West Nile virus and is now recuperating at home after being released from a hospital. Orange County. Orange County Mosquito Control Director Patrick Beebe Monday said the Texas Department of State Health Services notified him of the case. The neighborhood where the woman lives is south of Interstate 10 and north of Green Avenue between Simmons Drive and Adams Bayou. County Dump Truck Stolen
Sheriff's deputies Saturday recovered a dump truck that had been stolen from the Orange County Precinct 2 "barn" off Lawrence Road on Friday night. Investigations Captain Cliff Hargrave said the Ford F-350 dump truck was found off North Teal Road. Deputies also recovered other stolen items at the site. Commissioners To Vote On Hiring Freeze
The vote will be taken Tuesday during the regular meeting, but the discussion was done Monday during a workshop on whether the county should keep its policy of a six-weeks hiring freeze for new employees. The Commissioners Court discussed the four-year old policy with Human Resources Director Lori Ardoin during the workshop. Ardoin informed that the hiring freeze policy came into effect in February 2014 when there were 25 county employees retiring in a very short time. Woman Seriously Injured In ATV Accident
A 28-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury Sunday evening in an ATV accident in the LaPray Lane area near Vidor. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the woman was taken by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Deputies reported the woman was a passenger next to the driver of a side-by-side Kawasaki Teryx. The ATV hit a hole and the vehicle bounced. Domestic violence kept Orange police busy during the weekend, including one stabbing and one fight in which gunshots were fired. However, detectives have a mystery. No one, not even the victim, knows what left a 53-year-old man lying unconscious in a pool of his own blood. The man was found in the about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 2900 block of 17th Street, in the area behind Taco Bell. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said officers found a piece of bloody construction pipe nearby and think the man was hit in the head with the pipe. Betty was a native and lifelong resident Port Arthur; born on July 23, 1938 to parents Mary LeBlanc and Alfred Kuntz.
