Orange Council Discussing Budget
The Orange City Council will be dealing with the budget for 2018-19 during three special called meetings next week. City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre will present the proposed budget to the council during a meeting at 10:45 a.m. in the council auditorium next to the Orange Public Library. Commissioners Busy At Tuesday Meeting
Orange County will have a change in who cleans the Courthouse and other county buildings after the Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to go with in-house janitors instead of a commercial janitorial company. Members Building Maintenance has been the commercial company cleaning the county buildings, but the Court previously gave it a 90-day notice terminating the contract effective October 1, 2018. The motion that was approved Tuesday by a vote of 3 to 1 stipulated that the county would hire four full-time employees classified as NE-1 and one part-time employee. 16th Street At I-10 Construction
Tuesday night is the first of four nights that 16th Street at the Interstate 10 overpass will be closed. The hours are 8 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Texas Department of Transportation is closing the section for overpass construction. Officer Injured Trying To Stop Thief
A police officer and a shoplifting suspect were injured during a fracas Monday when the suspect refused to stop, drop a stick and comply with the officer. Orange police report 36-year-old LeeRonald Maurice Budwine of Orange is now facing a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer along with resisting arrest and misdemeanor theft.
