Property owners who did not have damage from Tropical Storm Harvey last year will likely be paying more in property taxes for 2019 because of the decrease in values for buildings that flooded. For instance, the city of Pinehurst had about an 18 percent drop in total property values because of Harvey damage. The average value of a house in the city dropped from $76,976 to $62,098. To make up for the loss of income from property taxes, city councils may decide to go with the effective tax rate, which is calculated to raise the same amount of property taxes income as in 2018. Tax Rate Increase in West Orange
Taxes in the City of West Orange will be increasing next year. The City Council held a workshop Monday on the city’s $3.7 million budget. Later during the regular monthly meeting, the council approved raising the tax rate to $0.47 per 100 dollars value. Wilbur Ernest (Mac) McDonald, age 80, passed away at his home in Beaumont, surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 11, 2018. His courageous battle with cancer is over. He was born on a farm August 25, 1937 in Omega, Georgia to Neal and Annie (Nagles) MacDonald and was one of 13 children. Reagan Hambrick, a 2018 graduate of LC-M High School, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. Reagan completed his scouting activities through Troop 62, chartered to Faith United Methodist Church of Orange, with Scoutmaster Dennis Blowers. Let’s see what’s going on. 911 Operator, Bobbie Smith walked outside the Sheriff’s Office and noticed a small figure in the road a block away.
