The Orangefield school district lost $28.1 million worth of property values after Tropical Storm Harvey damage. However, the district is not proposing a tax increase at this time. The loss of taxable property means the district will need to have a tax rate of $1.53 per $100 valuation, compared to $1.28 per $100 valuation, to raise the same amount of property tax income for the next budget year. Vehicles Hit Immovable Objects
A Beaumont man was seriously injured Saturday night about 11:15 when the SUV he was driving on DuPont Drive veered off and hit a mailbox and then a tree. The Orange police officer who investigated the crash thinks a passenger was also seriously injured but left before police arrived. The officer said the amount of blood in the passenger seat led him to the think the passenger was injured and had not worn a seat belt. The driver was 42-year-old Adam Revia of Beaumont.
