On Wednesday August 15th 2018 at approximately 9:33PM, Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division along with Investigators with in the City of Orange Police Department Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet two door caprice at Main and Interstate 10 in Vidor. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 32 year old Melvin Wedgeworth of Vidor. The Sabine River Authority working with five counties in Southeast Texas has produced a website for a one-stop source during threatening weather conditions. The Regional Alerting Information Network or RAIN pulls together a network of stream gauging stations, weather service forecasts, and travel information for Orange, Newton, Jasper, Hardin, and Jefferson Counties. “Partners in Parks” Includes Orange Student
Edward Doan, of Orange, traveled to San Francisco June 25-29 to participate in “Partners in the Parks–Golden Gate National Recreation Area,” with fellow Lamar University honor students, Luke Nguyen and Naomi Raczkovi, joining nine other students from across the country. The experience was co-sponsored by the National Collegiate Honors Council and Tacoma Community College. Driver Unloads A Mess On 105
Authorities say Wednesday afternoon a truck unloaded at a business on FM 105, between Hwy. 87 & 62, and pulled out of the business with its bed still raised. The bed struck the power lines which pulled the truck over and also took down a power pole. The live wires on the ground started a grass fire. The Orange Fire Department arrived and put out the flames. The driver didn't suffer any serious injuries. Restaurant Reports; Lucy’s Scores 100
Restaurants and food businesses visited by the Orange County health inspector during the first half of August were cleaner than the ones rated in July. The worse one was an 81 and none scored in the 70s. Health Inspector James Scales went to 28 food-related businesses during the two weeks. Lucy's Cafe on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Pinehurst was the only one to score a perfect 100. The lowest score during the period was the Stop and Shop, 111 Green Avenue in Orange. Landfill Hours and Fees Will Change
The hours and fees charged at the Orange County Landfill will revert during the last week of August to close what they were prior to Tropical Storm Harvey. The Commissioners Court approved on Tuesday to have the landfill to be open three days a week and to stop waiving the fees for use of the landfill. Following Harvey, the landfill was open six days a week and all fees were waived.
