A trucker who stopped early Thursday morning to use the restroom at the Texas Travel Information Center had his rig with 14 tons of steel cores stolen.
The Peterbilt truck was later found in Beaumont and a man was arrested. The flatbed trailer with the steel was found separately about an hour later.
Orange police report the trucker was driving a 2016 Peterbilt tractor truck with a flatbed trailer loaded with six, 7,000 pound steel cores. The driver told police he left the truck unlocked but turned it off and took the key with him when he was gone for about five minutes.
However, the driver had a spare key in the truck in a compartment above the steering wheel. He called police about the theft at 4:48 a.m. Thursday. Orange police listed the rig as stolen.
Beaumont police found the truck at 6:37 a.m. and arrested a man. They found the trailer about 7:30 a.m.
A detective from Orange drove the truck driver to Beaumont so he could get his rig.
