Wednesday is the deadline for property owners to appeal the latest appraised values on real estate. The appraisal values are used to calculate property taxes set by the elected officials of entities like city councils, school boards and county commissioners.
The appeals are made to the Orange County Appraisal District, which issues the appraisals. An appeal can be made through the phone at 409-745-4777. A number of property owners have had their values lowered by talking to staff at the appraisal district.
An appeal can also be made in person at the appraisal district office, 9157 Interstate 10 East in the McLewis area. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If a property owner is not satisfied through the district, they may appeal to the Appraisal Review Board, a group of appointed citizens.
