The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears exploded in the third quarter to take a big lead which secured the victory going to the final period. The Bears defeated the Orangefield Bobcats 56-40 Thursday night at Bobcats Gym.
The victory moves Little Cypress-Mauriceville to 2-0 in district. Orangefield drops to 0-2 in district play.
Orangefield had made a contest of the district game getting a buzzer beating three-pointer from Zach Dischler to end the first half, and Ryan Deutsch made two of three free throws at the start of the third quarter to pull the Bobcats within five points, 22-17. The Bears would score the next 12 points to pull away 34-17 with still 4:40 left in the third.
Coming off the bench Ty’Reke Brown made three baskets in that run. Katon Brown was impressive as well with nine points in the quarter including a three-point play. Katon made the lead 20 points, 41-21, with two minutes left in the third with a bucket. LC-M scored 24 points in the third period which was more than it had in the whole first half.
The fourth quarter saw the Bears go to the bench more. The Bobcats rallied to reduce the deficit. Orangefield won its only quarter in the game, outscoring LC-M 19-10 in the final period.
The Bears had good balanced scoring with eight players registering points, three in double figures. Katon Brown finished with 17, Braden Bridges scored 11, and Ty’Reke Brown tossed in 10. Dischler was high scorer for Orangefield with 11 points.
Friday night will be a huge game for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears when they play the defending state champion and undefeated in district Silsbee Tigers at The Grove on the LC-M campus. The game will be carried live on KOGT with the tip off at about 7:30 PM. On Friday night Orangefield plays at West Orange-Stark which has won its first two district games.

Deweyville defeated West Hardin 43-36. Jada Freeland scored 15 for the Pirates while Karli McClelland added 12. DV is now 2-2 in 24-2A play.
