For most of last Friday night the Deweyville Pirates appeared destined to win their second game of the season, but a late touchdown by Woodville spoiled the victory party for Deweyville. This week is homecoming for the Pirates.
Coach Lance Dale looks at the offense for the West Sabine Tigers. Dale says the Tigers are a running team that gets into a double tight ends and double wings with a one back set. West Sabine has a good running back and a dangerous athlete at wing back that can run the ball as well as throw it. Dale points out the Tigers like to run the toss sweep with their wing backs and throw lateral passes to one of the wing backs, and he will then throw the option pass downfield. The coach advises West Sabine throws the option pass more than he has ever seen in high school football.
The Tigers put eight defenders in the box, and Coach Dale has plans to make West Sabine change that defensive strategy. Dale analyzes that the Tigers run a 5-3 Defense using five downed lineman and three linebackers with a cover three secondary behind it. They are a good sound defensive squad, and Coach Dale is working on things this week with the Pirates to disrupt the Tigers on defense a little bit.
Dale is determined that the Pirates will work as a team this Friday night and not let victory slip away against the Tigers. Coach Dale emphasizes Deweyville needs to have a great week of practice and stay focus despite all the distractions of homecoming. The football team has one job during homecoming according to Dale and that is winning the football game. To do that he wants the Pirates to play as a team, establish the running game on offense, and the main thing on defense is they have got to tackle.
