The 7th Grade Bobcat football team took on the Lumberton Raiders Tuesday night in Lumberton. Tyler Washington had another strong game at quarterback, while Clayton Westbrook and Aaron Miller played well on defense. Cade Griffin had a kick return for 15 yards in the first half to give the Bobcats good field position. Although the Bobcats played hard, they fell short, 22-0, to the Raiders.
The 8th Grade Orangefield Bobcat football team faced off against the Lumberton Raiders last night on the road. The offense looked impressive scoring on three straight drives after their first drive ended abruptly on an Raider interception. After that the offensive line stepped up and helped QB’s Clayson Choate and Kade Grozier pile up the yards on several designed runs. The high point of the offense’s performance came on a “hurry up” series that saw the Bobcats take the ball nearly 50 yards in the last minute of the first half. Kadeon Evans punched in a score on a sweep to the left and the Bobcats had a 20-0 nothing lead going into the half. The defense also came up big behind the play of defensive linemen, Colby Gonzales, Max Santos, and Cameron Wedgeworth. The defense lived in the Lumberton backfield all night led by LB, Cooper Lowe, who was one Bobcats that helped keep the Raider offense out of the endzone. When asked about his defense, Coach Hayden Fowler said, “These guys are really coming together as a defensive unit and have not allowed a score since the first drive of our first game.” The final score of the contest was 20-6 with Lumberton’s lone touchdown coming on a 67 yard punt return. The Cats improved to 1-0-1 and will face the Newton Eagles next week at Singletary Stadium.
