The one game series between West Orange-Stark and Orangefield turned out to be the pitching duel that it was billed to be.
Jack Dallas and the Mustangs beat Ryon Stubblefield and the Bobcats 2-0 at Vincent-Beck Stadium in Beaumont.
Dallas gave up no runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and one walk. Stubblefield gave up 2 runs on 6 hits with 6 K’s and no walks. Both pitchers hit one batter.
The Mustangs scored their first run in the third. Kaleb Ramsey hit one down the right field line and outfielder Andrew Hoyland tried to make the diving catch and the ball rolled to the fence, giving Ramsey a leadoff triple. BB Tezeno then bunted Ramsey home for a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth it was Tezeno that put one into shallow center and Johnny Armstrong tried making the diving catch in the spacious V-B Stadium. It rolled passed him and Tezeno stood at third when KJ Miller brought him home on a sacrifice fly.
The Bobcats had their best opportunity to score in the fourth when Brett Fregia doubled with one out and then got to third on a wild pitch. But two groundouts left him on base.
In the seventh, after Mason Gonzalez struck out, Dylan Anthony and Kent Michael reached with singles. Andrew Hoyland put a ball in play, Blake Bradley, running for Michael was out on a force at second and the throw to first for the double play was not in time. But the umpire called Hoyland out after calling Bradley for interference and the game came to an end.
WOS will play Waco Robinson, who swept Salado.
Also on Friday the LCM Lady Bears were knocked out of the playoffs with a 9-0 loss to Liberty Hill. BC softball lost their first game to Lorena 4-0 and will play Game Two on Saturday.
On Saturday at 2pm, KOGT will broadcast Game Two between BC and Silsbee. The Cards won game one 11-1.
