After a tough first half that featured three turnovers, the WOS Mustangs showed their championship form in the second half as they blew away Bellville 42-3 in the 4A D2 State Quarterfinals Friday night at Texan Drive Stadium.
The “Chain Gang” defense kept WOS in the game in the first half while the Mustangs offense worked out the kinks, holding Bellville to just 46 yards of offense as the Mustangs lead 8-3.
It didn’t take WOS long to get going in the second half.
After a three and out by the Brahmas, KJ Miller returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown. After another three and out by Bellville, Jack Dallas handed the ball off on first down to Jeremiah Shaw and he broke several tackles as he ran 62 yds for another score. A 2-point conversion made it 22-3 with 7:57 left in the third.
WOS then put the Brahmas out to pasture when the defense stopped Bellville on fourth and three inches. They followed that with a 12 play, 5 minute drive to put the game away with still a quarter to play.
For the game WOS had 454 yds. of offense. Jack Dallas was 18-28, 252 yds, one touchdown and one interception. Dallas won’t be getting any Christmas cards from Bellville. Back in May, his 14 strikeouts on the mound was the main reason WOS knocked Bellville out of the baseball playoffs.
Thomas Wallace was the leading receiver with 5 catches for 128 yds and a score from 80 out. Aric Cormier had four receptions and KJ Miller and Keion Hancock had three a piece.
On the ground Shaw rushed for 113 and a TD on 10 carries. Quinton Chargois added 5 carries for 41 yds and a score.
Defensively the Chain Gang only gave up 131 yds to Bellville. Mac Briscoe, who came into the game with 17oo yds rushing, finished with 100 yds. on 24 carries. Bellville finished with two first downs.
WOS will play Cuero in the semis after they blanked Sinton 28-0.
