It was the same song second verse as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs mauled the Houston Scarborough Spartans for the second year in a row in bi-district playoff action 63-0 at Baytown’s Stallworth Stadium Thursday night. Last year the final score was 64-0 in Beaumont.
The first quarter was the extent of the game being any kind of a contest. West Orange-Stark (10-1) put 33 points on the scoreboard and Scarborough (1-10) had about minus 33 yards of offense at that point.
Nine different Mustangs scored touchdowns. The officials mercifully allowed the clock to run beginning about midway into the second quarter. West Orange-Stark resorted to attempting field goals beginning with its last possession of the first half. It was about the only part of the Mustangs’ game that was not working well as they were good on one of three attempts all from inside of 33 yards.
Starters saw very limited action for West Orange-Stark. Quarterback Jack Dallas played only in the first quarter and threw two passes both for touchdowns; 38 yards to Thomas Wallace and 59 yards to Kentavious Miller. Running backs Melech Edwards and Jeremiah Shaw each had a rushing touchdown with limited carries by both.
Coming off the bench Quinton Chargois was the leading rusher for the Mustangs with 101 yards on five carries. His 61-yard touchdown closed out the scoring in the game with about eight minutes to play and put Chargois over 100 yards. Payton Robertson subbed for Dallas and completed his lone pass for 26 yards to Aric Cormier who did not score on the play, but got the Mustangs second touchdown of the game on a fumble recovery.
The Mustangs will play the winner of the LaGrange versus Wharton game in the Area Round of the state playoffs next week.
