The West Orange-Stark Mustangs opened the season with a 39-6 win over the Bridge City Cardinals Friday night in West Orange. That runs their win streak to 28 games and also gives them a 26-0 mark against the Cardinals.
WOS lead 26-6 at the half on touchdown runs by Kavyn Cooper, two by quarterback Chaka Watson, and a pass from Watson to Justin Sibley.
The Cardinals touchdown came on a drive with two big plays. First a 35 yard run by Caleb Dubois that set up a 39 yard pass to Max Baker with two minutes in the half.
In the second half, the Mustangs defense stepped it up a notch, allowing BC just seven yards of offense, 90 for the game.
Offensively Ja’Vonn Ross scored a touchdown on a 7 yd. run and also picked a fumble up and returned it for a score.
QB Watson was 10-15 for 91 yds and a TD. He spread his 10 completions to five different receivers. Cooper rushed the ball nine times for 113 yds.
WOS will host KIPP next Friday and the Cards will welcome Newton.
