The West Orange-Stark Mustangs took sole possession of first place in District 24-4A with a 4-2 road win at Bridge City Tuesday.
WOS scored in the first when Jack Dallas scored KJ Miller after Miller walked, stole second and reached third on an error. The Mustangs would add two more runs in the third on a sac fly RBI by Miller, scoring Keyshawn Holman, and then Ryan Ragsdale drove home Dallas to make it 3-0.
The Cards would respond in the bottom of the third with two runs off Dallas after Derrick Dearing scored on an error and Kevin Gordon drove in Kyle Bergeron.
WOS went up 4-2 after they added a run in the sixth when Ragsdale walked and then scored from second on an errant throw to first by pitcher Gordon, who replaced starting pitcher Tod McDowell in the fifth.
BC made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with only one out. But Bergeron hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
Dallas (4-1) got the complete game victory, striking out 6. McDowell (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season, giving up just three hits. The Cards hurt themselves with four errors. The Mustangs also stopped BC’s home win streak at 29 games.
WOS (4-0) will travel to LCM (1-3) Friday and BC (3-1) will host Orangefield (2-2).
