West Orange-Stark junior KJ Miller was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association All-State Baseball team as a second baseman. Miller had an incredible season hitting .500 at the plate. Miller’s worth to the team unfortunately showed itself during the district campaign when a team tied for first place almost slipped out of playoff contention when a wild pitch broke a bone in his hand. Miller came back just in time to get into the postseason and help his team advance to the third round of the playoffs.
The only other player in the area to make the team was Silsbee’s Travis Sundgren who was a third team pitcher.
In other baseball news the coaches All-Star game for graduated seniors was held last weekend at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Mustang shortstop Payton Robertson was selected to play in the game. He will join the Lamar Cardinals next season.
Also joining Robertson was Jasper’s pitcher John McMillon.
