The district war starts this week for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears. Coach Randy Crouch believes the war will not be won in this first game of the district. Five games make up the district battles in District 10-4A, and Crouch points out it will be competitive as always with no clear favorite. The coach reiterates that you have to take them one game at a time. “It’ll probably go down to the last game of the district to see who gets into the playoffs,” Crouch concludes.
The Silsbee Tigers are the opening district opponent for the Bears. Crouch admits LC-M will have a stiff test slowing down the Tigers’ offense. Quarterback Willie Jones is outstanding. At running back Calvin Tyler is very good. Silsbee’s best receiver is Kalon Barnes. The Tigers have a good offensive line as well. Crouch concedes they do a lot of good things on offense.
Coach Crouch analyzes the defense for Silsbee. The Tigers are very athletic on defense. They line up in a 50 front with a really good defensive line. Michael McCain is one of the leaders at outside linebacker. The Tiger’s secondary has some good players in it. The Tigers run to the football well according to Crouch. The Bears’ will definitely face a serious challenge on offense from the Silsbee defense.
With the start of district Friday night Crouch evaluates the Bears and provides the keys for LC-M to get a victory in the opener of this new phase of the season. They still need to block better and are working on that phase of the game every practice. Defensively Crouch says he saw some improvement despite the score last week against St. Pius X. Specialty teams excelled in that game with Dameon Morris returning kicks very well including one for a touchdown. Crouch sums up the keys are that the Bears need to block and tackle; when they do that good things happen.
Friday night the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears travel to Silsbee to battle the Tigers. The kickoff will be at 7:00 PM.
