The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears got a taste of the post season last year and they are hungry for more. Joining the Lady Bears on the bench is first year Head Coach Linda Riddick. She has a good group of young ladies back from last season’s playoff team. Riddick is counting on senior leadership from Josie Nimitz, Tori Thompson, and Malayzia Winbush as well as juniors back from last year Grace Chen, Maddie Frey, and Sheridan Rogers have all stepped it up so far in practice and games this season. Coach Riddick adds this group of girls went to the playoffs last season and will not be satisfied to go just one game in the playoffs this year. The Lady Bears are really jelling as a team, and Coach Riddick sees several new girls fitting into the varsity very nicely. Girls that moved up from the junior varsity last year to the varsity this year are seniors Taylor Abshire and Alexis Sezer plus juniors Alia Brown and Robyn Steen. Riddick points out they are familiar with the style of play she wants and are already making contributions early this season. Junior Kaitlin McCallon moved into the LC-M district and has made a place for herself on the team, in fact the entire group Riddick says looks like they’ve been practicing and playing together for years. Making the playoffs is always the goal, and Riddick thinks the Lady Bears at LC-M can reach higher than that. Coach Riddick states, “We know we’re moving into a tough district the teams are more evenly matched and very fundamental we have to step it up every day to reach our goal to come out on top and that is our goal to come out on top in district, but there is no doubt that every game’s going to be a battle in this district.”
