The Orangefield Lady Bobcats trailed early but rallied to defeat the Lufkin Hudson Lady Hornets 3-2 Friday night in Jasper. The victory moves Orangefield into the Area Round of the playoffs.
Devany Crain hit a tiebreaking homerun to left field in the fourth inning to give the Lady Bobcat a lead they never relinquished. Kaylee Ancelot may not have had her best stuff registering just two strikeouts in her complete game victory, but she was determined in the clutch situations. She stranded six Lady Hornets on base in the game including the tying run at third in the seventh inning.
Ancelot was helped defensively by her teammates. Autumn Frost made the play of the game when she dove to catch a line drive to her right at shortstop to end the sixth inning for Lufkin Hudson with the tying run at second base. The game actually ended with Lady Bobcat centerfielder Faith Fregia saving the win when she dove to catch a shallow fly to center that three Orangefield fielders could have caught and all seemed to give up on until Fregia snagged the ball just inches from the turf.
Ancelot also helped with her bat driving in Kristin Broussard with a first inning single. Kinley Gipson had three hits in the contest including a run batted in single to score Broussard in the third to tie the game.
The Orangefield Lady Bobcats will now face a familiar opponent in the Area Round. The Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks who were in the Lady Bobcats district until this season in the next round of the playoffs.
