BC QB Byron Trahan follows his blockers downfield
The two weeks off did not seem to hinder the Bridge City Cardinals who registered a solid win over Cleveland last week. Coach Dwayne DuBois indicates the Cardinals are in good shape heading into Week 2 of the district games. DuBois says there are no significant injuries and Bridge City looks good on that front.
This week Bridge City plays longtime rival the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears. DuBois zeroes in on what his Cardinals’ defense must stop from the Bears. LC-M has shifted from the Slot-T which the coach is very familiar with to the Spread Offense the last four games. The Bears are throwing the ball around more, but DuBois believes LC-M has also gone to the Spread to help get running back Chris Winters in open space.
Winters is a great back in DuBois’ opinion; he runs hard with speed and is very elusive. He will be the number one guy the Cardinals will be aiming to stop on Friday night. Receiver Katon Brown uses his height and jumping ability to make some remarkable catches which has DuBois concerned. Quarterback Beau Bickham is experienced, and according to DuBois is a steady leader of the Bears’ offense.
Coach DuBois is anticipating LC-M using a familiar 6-2 defense as most teams do against the Bridge City Slot-T offense. The Bears seem to be a team oriented defense. The Bears’ linebackers are active and run to the ball well. LC-M has good size in the defensive line. DuBois predicts, “The matchup with our kids should be a pretty good game up front.”
The Cardinals come into the game 1-0; the Bears are 0-1 in district. DuBois is expecting maximum efforts from both teams in this district and rivalry game. He believes the LC-M coaches will have the Bears ready to play and pumped for the contest. DuBois wants the Cardinals to show improvement each and every week from their past performance.
Keys to the game for Coach DuBois are controlling the clock on offense and limiting turnovers which Bridge City did last week against Cleveland. The kicking game needs to perform well which it also did against the Indians. DuBois states, “I am expecting the same thing this Friday.”
Bridge City plays LC-M at Battlin’ Bear Stadium Friday night. The Cardinals and Bears can be heard live beginning at 7:00 PM on KOGT. The game will be rebroadcast at 7:00 AM on Saturday.
