Cayce Draper runs hard as a couple of Bears try to take him down Friday.
Friday night the Bridge City Cardinals did what they do best, run the football to another victory in a 54-28 win over the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears.
The Cards (4-2, 2-0) rolled up 421 yards of offense, all on the ground, as three backs crossed the 100 yard mark. Max Baker lead the way with 134 yards and three scores, Cayce Draper added 119 yards and Patrick Morris rushed for 111 and a touchdown.
The Bears (2-5, 0-2) made a game of it in the first half. They held a 21-20 lead with a little more than three minutes to go. The Cards got the ball and drove 75 yards with Baker scoring from 10 yards. He followed that by scoring on a two point conversion to take a 28-21 lead into the locker room.
The Bears then started the third quarter by turning the ball over three straight times, and the Cardinals turned each one into a touchdown. It included a 100 yard interception return by Hunter Denton. Going into the Bears first possession of the fourth quarter it was 47-21 BC. Both would add a score in the fourth.
LCM actually had more yards than the Cardinals with 428, but they turned the ball over six times. Coach Randy Crouch said, “It doesn’t matter how well you prepare or play, it’s hard to win a game when you have more turnovers than your opponent.”
The Cardinals host 2-0 Silsbee Friday and the Bears go to Huffman.
