The Orangefield Bobcats held Newton scoreless in the second half to beat the Eagles 24-21 at Singletary Stadium. It’s the second straight year that OF has taken down the mighty state-ranked Eagles.
OF scored first and Newton responded with a TD and the Bobcats lead 7-6. Newton would take the lead and complete a 2 point conversion to lead 14-7 after one quarter.
The Bobcats outscored Newton 10-7 in the second quarter and the Eagles led at the half 21-17.
The two battled in the second half and OF took advantage of an Eagle turnover to take the 24-21 lead. Newton was moving the ball at the end of the game and Gabe Foster (pictured) looked like he was going to score when he was caught and tackled by Andrew Hoyland.
Quarterback Matthew Watkins rushed 20-169 yards and a score. Christopher McGee scored twice while rushing for 91 yds. on 16 carries. Matthew Rainey added his first field goal of the season.
The Bobcats are 3-2 and host Houston Worthing for Homecoming Friday.
