The Sugar Land Skeeters and manager Gary Gaetti announced right-handed pitcher Derek Blacksher, from Bridge City, was signed to a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. He will join the Advanced-A affiliate of the club in Dunedin, Florida. He becomes the eighth Sugar Land player this season to earn a contract to Minor League Baseball.
Blacksher went 5-3 this season with the Skeeters after making 25 appearances and nine starts with the club. His 2.45 ERA this season ranks the ninth-lowest in team history with a minimum of 50.0 innings pitched. He struck out 63 batters to only 16 walks and was named an Atlantic League All-Star for his performance in the first half of the season.
